A dramatic encounter saw the visitors control most of the early running, before Telford snatched momentum during a tense closing session.

The win was a fifth in succession for Tom Watkins' men and further reduces the gap to the top four sides in the EPL, ahead of Sunday's trip to face Manchester.

Watkins said: "It was a huge two points for us and keeps us going on this run, with five wins straight.

"The belief and confidence is there, especially with those two powerplay goals we scored.

"There are still areas that we need to work on, but there's a lot to be positive about from tonight."

A goalless first period was followed by a tightly fought second session, with the first goal coming from Peterborough on 29 minutes.

Telford hit back virtually straight away, however, thanks to a Joe Miller tip-in from Jonathan Weaver's long-range shot.

But the visitors regained their lead on the stroke of the second interval, with a disputed goal from Marc Lever's breakaway.

The third session started well for The Tigers, as Peter Szabo struck to equalise with just 27 seconds on the clock.

Telford dominated proceedings in that final period, but they were unable to find a way past netminder Janis Auzins.

And it was Max Birbraer who scored the winner after two minutes of overtime

Watkins added: "Overtime is exciting to watch, but also nerve-wracking. It can be frustrating for a coach, as there's not much you can control.

"We had most of the possession in three on three and I don't think we gave up a shot on goal. Then Max won it for us with a great shot past Auzins."

Telford are back in action on Sunday evening, when they make the trip to Deeside, to face Manchester Phoenix.

The club's NIHL side takes to home ice on Sunday, when they face arch-rivals Solihull Barons (6pm).
