Boss tells The New Saints to be wary for derby

Head coach Carl Darlington has warned The New Saints not to rest on their laurels ahead of tomorrow's Welsh Premier League derby with Newtown.

While the defending champions have reeled off three straight league wins, and conceded just four goals all season, Newtown have shipped in 19 goals in their last four home outings.

"Newtown have been very in-between this season, they have had had some good wins but also some poor results," said Darlington.

"They lost 4-1 to Prestatyn last Saturday, but there is nothing worse than a wounded animal and we must make sure we are on our game.

"It is a local derby, anything can happen, and they have some former TNS players in their ranks (including Barry Hogan, Craig Whitfield and Nicky Ward) and they will be looking to make a point."

With Greg Draper waiting in the wings and Matty Williams continuing his comeback from a knee injury, the Saints have an abundance of options up front, although Scott Quigley has joined Welsh Premier rivals Carmarthen on loan.

Newtown boss Bernard McNally is boosted by the return of Andy Jones and Luke Boundford.

"Our concern is that we have been conceding too many goals and we need to address that," he said.
