Steve Leslie backed to do a job for Shrews
Saturday 9th October 2010, 12:00PM BST.
Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Turner has backed home grown midfielder Steve Leslie to fulfil his potential, declaring: “He has got all the ingredients to be a very good player.”
But the Town chief believes confidence is the key to the 22-year-old producing his best.
Leslie has started the last two games against Torquay and Bury and was hoping to retain his place for this afternoon’s League Two trip to Morecambe.
And Turner has revealed he has been encouraged by the youngster’s ability.
“Steve Leslie has got some lovely vision,” said Turner.
“He sees great passes and very often delivers with his left foot.
“There is a lot more to come from Steve Leslie.
“Last Saturday I played him in one of the central positions and it didn’t go down terribly well with supporters because of one or two mis-placed passes.
“My view of Steve is that he has got the ingredients to be a very good player but, at the Meadow, I think he lacks a bit of confidence.
“We have got to try and instill that confidence into him.
“He has got a great left foot, great vision and he can score goals.
“It might not be next week and it might not be next month but I have got confidence in the lad that, ultimately, he will be a very good player.”
