Shrewsbury Town striker Kris Bright faces a race against time to be fit for the Carling Cup first round tie with Charlton Athletic on Tuesday.

The Kiwi international, who has suffered with a shoulder injury throughout the summer, saw a planned comeback in last week's friendly with Shawbury dashed by illness.

That setback prevented him from taking his place in the Town squad for today's League Two season opener against Bradford City.

And Town boss Graham Turner confirmed the 23-year-old was not yet ready for a starting spot.

He said: "He's back in training, that's good as he needs to prove himself.

"But he isn't match fit and he isn't ready for consideration for the Bradford match and we will just have to see how he goes."

Meanwhile, the club is reporting that ticket sales for the cup clash with Charlton are going well.

Club officials said the prospect of causing a first round upset should see a crowd of around 5,000 - more than 1,000 more than the home match with Ipswich Town at the same stage of the competition last year.

Charlton are expected to bring around 500 travelling fans to next week's fixture at the Greenhous Stadium.
