AFC Telford United boss Andy Sinton has identified the addition of a right midfielder and a left-back as two of his top priorities.
The Bucks boss asked forward Alex Meechan - who should complete his own move to the Bucks this evening - to play on the right for Tuesday's 2-0 defeat in the opening friendly at The New Saints.
And his lack of options on the left of defence was exposed when Sean Newton was forced off at half-time with a groin injury.
Winger Danny Edwards, who is himself trying to win a deal, was asked to slot in - but Sinton would like a specialist to fight England C international Newton for a place.
"There are a couple areas of the squad where I need to strengthen, although nothing is close to being done at the moment," he said.
Short
"I've got my eye on two or three and, as we saw on Tuesday, we're short in a couple of areas.
"We had to play Alex as a wide right player, and that's an area in the squad where we need to get someone in.
"We need cover for Newts on the left. We just need a few more options, but on the whole I'm very pleased with the lads."
Former Shrewsbury midfielder Will Richards is one trying to impress Sinton and win a deal with the Bucks.
The teenager got a late run-out against the Saints and did enough to convince the Telford chief that he is worth another look.
"Will showed in just a few minutes what a good player he's going to be," said Sinton. "He's composed on the ball, puts his foot in and gets around the park.
"He's one we've kept an eye on, and I could see him being a useful part of our squad."
