A huge display of working Meccano models was on show in Shropshire, including a giant Westland Wessex air sea rescue helicopter.

Meccanuity 2011 exhibition saw models from the Telford and Ironbridge Meccano Society unveiled at the Enginuity design and technology centre in Ironbridge over the weekend.

Large quantities of Meccano parts were also available for youngsters to create their own Meccano wonders. Among the intricate models on show were the giant Westland Wessex air sea rescue helicopter, the work of former RAF pilot Ken Senar.

Other displays included a number of fairground models of roundabouts, swing-boats and a helter-skelter ride for ping-pong balls.

Richard Aldred, from Enginuity, hailed the event a success and said hundreds of people came through the doors over the three-day model show.

"It was lovely to see visitors old and young alike enjoying the amazing Mecanno displays at Enginuity over the weekend," he said.

"The Telford and Ironbridge Meccano Society once again put on a marvellous show and it really captured the imagination of our visitors."

Enginuity is one of the 10 award-winning museums spread along the Ironbridge valley beside River Severn, which is home to the world's first iron bridge.

Revellers can see the products that set industry on its path and the machines that made them.
