Nostalgia gallery – week ending July 17, 2010
Friday 16th July 2010, 9:53AM BST.
A few days ago we carried a couple of old pictures of work starting on a new civic centre at Paddock Mount, Dawley. And here are the workers of Dawley Urban District Council having a celebratory drink after completing the initial infrastructure works in 1968. The picture was e-mailed in by Mike Jordan who worked at the time in the council's surveyor's department. "Following the completion of the infrastructure works carried out by the council's Direct Labour Organisation, Councillor George Chetwood Senior took us all to the White Horse at Heath Hill for a celebratory drink. He is middle row centre with the tie. His son, also George, is sitting in front of him. "The only other names that I remember are Ken Davies, front row second from left, and Jim Ellis, front row second from the right."
A round-up of this week’s Shropshire Star nostalgia pictures.

I saw a picture of the turret in the paper dated July 13. That was the turret we used to play in when we were children and that was in the late 1950s.
We were told by our parents and grandparents to be careful of the mineshafts.
I’m surprised it is still there because my family moved to Upper Road in late 1959, early 1960.
But I still had my grandparents who lived at the Shrubbery in Ironbridge and I think that Mr Ronnie Harris still lives down there.
That photo brought back a lot of memories for me.
