Telford & Wrekin Council is to commit £100,000 to tackle homelessness in the borough.

Council leader Shaun Davies is due to announce the investment as part of the Telford 50 legacy project at tonight's full council meeting.

He said that the money would be used to help people off the streets, and also to tackle the root causes of homelessness.

Councillor Davies also revealed that a new homelessness advisory panel will be set up, to meet for the first time in mid June ahead of a summit on the subject on June 29.

The first examples of how the money will be spent are likely to be announced at the summit.

The new money follows funding the council made available last year to enable support for rough sleepers to be provided all year round and not just in the three coldest months of the year.
