Mr Kawczynski said Parliament needed to debate the situation after Speaker John Bercow said new US President Donald Trump should not be allowed to speak in Westminster Hall, if he came on a visit to Great Britain.

Mr Kawczynski, the MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham, said: "It is very important that we have a debate about what has just happened, which is the speaker, who is meant to represent all of us, meant to be impartial, meant to ensure that the integrity of the House of Commons is at the fore, has let us down by publicly saying he would not welcome President Trump to the House of Commons.

"Interestingly he has personally greeted the Chinese premier and there are many human rights issues in China, particularly in Tibet.

"America is our number one ally. President Trump has been elected by the American people and as we are coming out of the EU these countries like America will be of immense importance to us in broader trade and through Nato. For him to publicly castigate President Trump like this does damage to the country."

"I have heard from friends, congress members, who are shocked and dismayed and think the speaker is speaking for all of us."

"We do not agree with him on everything, but in these very troubled times when we are facing what some would argue is an increasing threat from Russia, massive challenges over ISIS, all the issues facing us, it is a time to keep our closest ally as close as possible," he said.

A bitter row has broken out in Parliament over Mr Bercow's future after a Tory MP launched a bid to oust him.

James Duddridge tabled a parliamentary motion of no confidence in the speaker.

The row was triggered when Mr Bercow backed MPs who opposed the prospect of the US president addressing Parliament in Westminster Hall during his state visit later this year.

Mr Bercow said he was strongly opposed to an address by President Trump in Westminster Hall and his views had been strengthened by the President's travel ban on Muslims.

The early day motion, a way for MPs to register concern about an issue, was tabled as Parliament rose for its February recess.

However, other county MPs have not shared Mr Kawczynski's feelings.

Mark Pritchard, MP for the Wrekin said: "I haven't always agreed with Mr Speaker and he isn't everyone's cup of tea, but he has given more power to the backbenches. That is indisputable.

"I think this motion will fail."

Glyn Davies, MP for Montgomeryshire. said: "I have nothing against John Bercow but I don't believe he should have said what he said, especially as speaker of the House of Commons, that prejudices his neutrality.

"I just have no idea why he said it, especially when at this stage we have no idea when Donald Trump will be coming here, an invitation hasn't even been sent at this stage."
