Roger Dyke, clerk to Weston Rhyn Parish Council, has written a letter on behalf of the parish council to the authority's chief executive Clive Wright, declaring they have recorded a vote of no confidence in Shropshire Council and their elected representatives Councillor David Lloyd and Councillor Robert Macey.

In the letter to Mr Wright, Mr Dyke said: "For several months now Weston Rhyn Council has been making representations to Shropshire Council, both direct and through Councillors D. Lloyd and R. Macey for much needed improvements on road safety grounds to various areas of our parish, in particular by The Plough (pub), Primary School and bad bends towards the Wern.

"We were promised a flashing speed warning sign by the school to be installed by March. Nothing has materialised and we have heard nothing concrete on our road safety submissions.

"The parish council are of the opinion Shropshire Council prefer to use their valuable funds for unneeded or warranted schemes in Gobowen, St Martins."

Mr Dyke also said an email outlining the parish council's concerns were sent to Councillors Lloyd and Macey on April 5, with leader of the authority Councillor Malcolm Pate and Mr Wright also copied in, but claims they had received a reply.

In his latest letter, Mr Dyke has asked Mr Wright to reply to parishioner's points and requested that he attends a future meeting of the parish council, in order to "have a meaningful discussion on how Weston Rhyn Parish Council can press ahead with required improvements with the support and backing of Shropshire Council" as well as their local representatives.

Last month Councillor Ralph Cooper, chairman of Weston Rhyn Parish Council, fumed about the local authority's treatment of the village.

He said: "Weston Rhyn Parish Council believes that Shropshire Council does not know where Weston Rhyn is. I'm totally disgusted by the raw deal Weston Rhyn gets from Shropshire Council.

"We have no communication from them, we haven't been invited to any meetings regarding what services may be devolved to parish councils.

"We get a feeling of why should we cooperate with them if they don't cooperate with us?"

Responding to the parish council's vote of no confidence, Councillor Lloyd said: "All the points raised have been dealt with. We cannot contend with funding at the top, and while we can make the strongest representations, it's a question of funding and priority.

"As far as I'm concerned we have done all we can."

Councillor Lloyd confirmed he planned to attend the next meeting of Weston Rhyn Parish Council on June 20.
