Adam Ryan, of Withywood Drive, Telford appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court for sentence after previously pleading guilty to two charges of threatening Paul Lloyd with a bladed article.

He was sentenced to six months imprisonment for each charge to run concurrently and which were suspended for 12 months. He was also ordered the comply with a supervision order.

Mr Phillip Beardwell, prosecuting, told the court that in the early hours of September 4, 2014, Mr Lloyd, was making his way though Telford town centre in the direction of Asda petrol station. He met with some friends and sat in the shopping centre car park talking.

They were then approached by a skinny man with messed up hair and brown eyes who appeared to be drunk, said Mr Beardwell. The man accused Mr Lloyd of being on steroids and then became abusive towards the group.

"Mr Lloyd then walked in the direction of the town park and as he was walking away he heard the sound of glass breaking. As he turned to look he saw the man was bleeding from his head. He did not see what had caused this.

"The male then ran off shouting 'You are going to get it'.

"As Mr Lloyd reached the Asda petrol station the male returned and he was carrying two kitchen knives. He said: 'I'm going to kill you'.

"Mr Lloyd raised his hands to defend himself and one of the knives cut into his hand. He was then punched to the jaw.

"A security guard saw what had happened and called the police."

CCTV had captured the exchange and it was from this that Ryan was identified.

Mr Myles Wilson for Ryan said that the defendant was stuck in a rut, adding: "He was saving face and retaliating after being hit on the head with a bottle."

In sentencing, Ryan Judge Peter Barrie said: "You were reacting to someone having assaulted you. But you went home and you collected these knives to retaliate to someone for what had been done to you. You reacted wildly. You are a young man who has not managed to find his way in life."
