Residents and drivers have until the later this week to raise their views about changes to a village's speed limit.

Consultation is currently open on plans to change the restrictions in Cross Houses, near Shrewsbury, with opinions welcomed until Thursday.

The plans would see the length of the 30 miles per hour zone change in village on the A456, as part of a planning agreement.

According to consultation documents for Shropshire Council, it said: "The changes to the length of the 30mph on the A458 are part of the planning agreement for the housing development by Fletcher Homes. The change of speed limit from 40 to 30 mph along the road to Berrington will reduce sign clutter.

"The other changes to the speed limit are to consolidate/tidy up the order for Cross Houses so as to include those lengths not previously covered."

The plans, available to view on Shropshire Council's website, will see the 40mph speed limit on the road to Berrington from its junction with the A458 Shrewsbury to Bridgnorth road reduced to 30 mph.

That limit will stay in place for about 57 metres.

Meanwhile, the 30mph speed limit on the A458 on the western side of the village will be extended so that the 40mph limit will be reduced in length.

Fletcher Homes was given permission to build 39 homes off Holcroft Way in Cross Houses back in 2015, despite a number of objections at the time.

The development will be built behind houses in High Cross Avenue with a disused railway line to the south and open fields either side.

When plans were first put forward, the highways authority raised concerns over the intensified use of the junction with Holcroft Way and the A458 following a number of crashes involving right turning vehicles.

However, the plans to move and alter 30 mph signs and restrictions were drawn up in a bid to improve safety along the road.

Full details of the plans, currently out for consultation, can be found in documents at Shirehall, in Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, or at Bayston Hill Library.
