It would cost £11,000 to get the pool up and running in August next year.

Town councillors are continuing to look into ways to get the pool reopened but said this would only be possible if the demand was there.

Figures show than in 2015 a total of 43 people used it.

Earlier this year Shropshire Council said the outdoor pool in Newtown Road could be permanently closed due to falling visitor numbers.

At a meeting of Market Drayton Town Council councillor Mark Whittle said: "We give a substantial amount of money to the Tigers and other sporting groups so I think we should support the outdoor pool.

"Swimming is a one of the most important things to learn and the outdoor pool is a real family affair. There are not many outdoor pools in the UK so we should protect this one.

"It would be money well spent.

"The pool has been neglected over the years and left to fall into wrack and ruin. We need to help get it open for the summer."

Town councillors decided to form a working group with users of the pool and the management committee.
