The Harry Johnson Trust has benefited from a series of auctions organised by the Telford boxing legend.

In the latest auction a pair of signed Team GB boxing gloves went under the hammer in Shrewsbury.

Richie, who grew up in the Brookside area of Telford, is holding auctions of boxing memorabilia to raise money for cancer charities as a tribute to his father Len, who died from the disease last year.

Richie said he was delighted to be able to help. "They are special charities, those that help children with cancer," he said.

"I'm really pleased to have been able to help."

Previous beneficiaries have included the Lingen Davies Cancer Relief Fund, Macmillan Cancer Support, and the fund to adapt the home of Telford schoolboy Matthew Cooper.

The Harry Johnson Trust was founded by Sally and Stephen Johnson in memory of their son Harry who died from a rare form of cancer at the the age of seven.

It provides support for children being treated for cancer at Telford's Princess Royal Hospital, giving them a hamper of essentials on arrival like fleece blankets and pillowcases. It also provides treats and days out for children who receive ongoing cancer treatment.

Sally, of Vennington, Shrewsbury, said she was delighted Richie had chosen the charity.

"For a charity like us, £130 will make a huge difference, it will help many children and their families," she said. "We would like to give Richie a big thank-you for thinking of us."

The auction was held by Shrewsbury-based Halls.

Shrewsbury Sports Village will be supporting The Harry Johnson Trust with free fitness classes on September 27 and 28, with those attending being invited to make a donation to the charity.
