Driver taken to hospital after two-car Whitchurch crash

A man was taken to hospital with back pain after a two car-crash in Whitchurch.

Police, ambulance and the fire service were on hand this morning near to the Motor Centre at Higher Heath to help clear the blocked road and help those in the cars.

A 31-year-old man who had been driving one of the cars was taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with back and rib pain.

A 17-year-old passenger in one of the cars complained of neck pain but refused treatment.

Two ambulances and a rapid response paramedic were in attendance, as well as a fire crew from Prees, who helped clear the road.

Jamie Arrowsmith of West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called at 8.09pm on the A41 to two cars.

"A 31-year-old man, the driver of one of the cars, was complaining of back pain, also rib pain. He was fully concious. He was taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

"A 17-year-old male was a passenger in one of the cars, complaining of neck pain, declined pain relief. He has been discharged."

West Mercia Police also attended the scene, and Daniel Butler, a spokesman for the force, said the vehicles involved were a Ford KA and a Volkswagen Passat.

Mr Butler said: "We were called at about 8.15pm to reports of a collision near to the Motor Centre at Higher Heath.

"The road is about to reopen again after being closed temporarily to clear debris."
