Inquest opens on Shrewsbury man found in woodland

A man who had been missing for four days was found dead in woodland close to the Meole Brace park and ride in Shrewsbury, an inquest heard.

Stuart Downes, 31, had been reported as missing by his family on June 20. His body was found on June 24.

John Ellery, coroner for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin heard that Mr Downes, who lived at Ryton Close, Meole Brace, was last seen by his family leaving his home.

They thought he was going to see his girlfriend but when he failed to return they reported him missing to police who conducted an intensive search of the area.

A few days later his body was found hanging from a tree.

A post mortem was carried out and the cause of death was given as hanging by the neck.

The inquest was adjourned and a full hearing in to the death of Mr Downes will take place on October 19 at Shrewsbury's Shirehall.
