Woman trapped for an hour after two-car Oswestry smash
A woman was trapped for more than an hour while emergency services worked to free her after a serious crash in Oswestry.
The injured woman had to be airlifted to hospital following the smash, which happened on Gobowen Road in Oswestry and involved a saloon car and a van.
One motorist has now been arrested for drink driving.
Emergency services were called to the B5069 near Old Oswestry Hill Fort just before 5pm on Saturday, where the woman in her 50s had to be cut from the wreckage of her car.
The woman, who was suffering chest and abdomen pain, was trapped for almost an hour while Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service worked to free her. She was taken by air ambulance to Stoke University Hospital.
The driver of the white van did not require hospital treatment.
Both vehicles sustained major damage to the front driver's side and fire crews had to cut the roof off the woman's car in order to free her.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "The two-car collision had left one woman, in her 50s, trapped by her legs in the car.
"The fire service worked to cut her out of the car whilst ambulance staff administered pain relief and fluids as she had sustained pain to her chest and abdomen.
"After an hour, the woman was freed from the wreckage and ambulance staff immobilised her with a neck collar and spinal board.
"She was then taken by air ambulance to Royal Stoke University Hospital for specialist trauma care.
"The driver of the second vehicle did not require hospital treatment."
