Thomas Lavill ignored the ban on making contact with his partner on four occasions just days after appearing in court.

Lavill, 41, was subject to a suspended prison sentence for inflicting grievous bodily harm on the woman who suffered a broken cheek bone following an assault in 2015.

He was jailed for 15 months when he appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court and will also be on a year's supervision after his release.

Judge Peter Barrie said Lavill's repeated efforts to contact his former partner had caused her great distress and his attitude had led to the collapse of the relationship with the probation service.

He imposed 14 months of the original suspended sentence with an additional one month sentence for possession of cannabis and the breaches of the restraining order, which remains in place until February 2019.

Lavill, of Dudmaston, Hollinswood, and formerly of Sweet Chestnut Grove, The Rock, had admitted the offences.

The court heard Lavill and the woman had a four-year relationship, which ended in July, 2015 when she was assaulted.

Lavill was given an 18-month suspended prison sentence and a three-year restraining order on February 19 last year, which he breached just eight days later when he approached his ex-partner while she was getting out of her car.

She retreated back into the vehicle, phoned the police and he was later arrested.

Lavill was sentenced to 80 hours unpaid work on May 24 but called the woman two days later and again on June 1.
