Telford shops in raids where 10,000 litres of illegal alcohol found

Telford was one of the places where more than 10,000 litres of illegal alcohol was found during operations by customs officers across the West Midlands.

Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs says that 50 officers, including officers from Trading Standards and members of the police force, targeted 24 retail premises during the raids.

The shops were in Telford, Birmingham, Dudley, Worcester, Stoke, Coventry and Wolverhampton.

Products were seized from 18 of the premises, including 13 litres of spirits, 1,580 litres of wine and 18,100 cans of beer.

HMRC said about £20,000 had been evaded in duty costs and VAT.
