Marcin Piskorek, 37, was driving a BMW 3 Series when he was pulled over by police in Hadley Park Road, Hadley, on August 15, Telford Magistrates Court heard yesterday.

Ms Abigail Hall, prosecuting, said Piskorek smelt of cannabis and was requested to take a roadside drug test. He was arrested after it came back positive and he was taken to the police station and given a blood test.

Piskorek, of Ainslie Court, Hadley, pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle with a controlled drug, above the specified limit, in his system.

Ms Rachel Bentley, representing Piskorek, said he had been to a party and had felt fine to drive.

She said: "Because he needed his car for work on Monday he took a chance."

Ms Bentley said Piskorek thought the drug had cleared through his system.

The court heard that Piskorek works as a crane operator. Before sentencing, Ms Bentley told magistrates: "The loss of his licence will be a significant blow to him."

As well as being banned from driving for 12 months, Piskorek was ordered to pay a £500 fine, £135 costs and a £50 victim surcharge.
