Daniel Creevy, aged 36, had been at the home of his girlfriend Tracey Wood in Telford on December 29 when her friend Tania Parkes came to visit.

Shrewsbury Crown Court heard that Miss Wood had agreed to get a credit loan for Miss Parkes as she was unable to do so.

Creevy had previously admitted two charges of theft on December 29 and the second on January 9 this year.

"The offence took place just after Christmas when the defendant was low on funds," said Miss Samantha Powis, prosecuting.

"The defendant was a witness to the transaction and Miss Wood received £600 from the credit company.

"The defendant was in the living room and the two women were elsewhere.

"He then left the house taking the money with him. Miss Parkes returned to the living room and she saw that her bag had been disturbed.

"Two weeks later he came back to Miss Wood's house.

"This time he took her bag and purse. On January 11 Miss Woods was able to return to Miss Parkes her belongings but not the cash.

"The defendant was arrested but denied the offences. This was a massive breach of trust. Tracey Wood was the defendant's girlfriend at the time."

She added that the two women are no longer friends and that Miss Wood was still attempting to pay off the loan, despite crippling interest rates.

Judge Michael Challinor sentenced Creevy of Wildwood, Woodside, to 26 weeks imprisonment.

As he was also in breach of a previous suspended sentence for shoplifting and possession of drugs, Judge Challinor activated the sentence of 26 weeks.
