Man in Shropshire court charged with slavery offences

A man has appeared in court to face charges relating to slavery.

Toi Van Le is charged with holding a person in slavery or servitude and arranging the travel of another person with a view to exploitation.

The 51-year-old is also charged with eight counts of producing cannabis.

Le, of Tanners Hill, Deptford, London, was arrested in Birmingham on Wednesday and appeared at Telford Magistrates Court on Saturday.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said the charges related to alleged offences committed across the country, including on the force's policing area.

Le was remanded in custody and will next appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on June 27.
