Three sought after man suffers serious head injuries in Christmas Day churchyard assault

A man was left with serious head injuries and another sustained facial injuries in a Christmas Day assault in a churchyard.

A group of men in their 20s were in Tender Fried Chicken on Church Street, Wellington between 3am and 4am on Christmas Day when they had an argument with a group of three unknown men.

They then made their way towards the churchyard, where they were again approached by the same three men. Both parties separated following another verbal argument.

The group then started to walk in the direction of King Street when the three men returned in the company of several others. A physical assault followed in which one of the victims suffered serious head injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance. Another sustained facial injuries but did not require medical treatment.

West Mercia Police is appealing for information following the assault that occurred on the pathway which runs through All Saints churchyard between Church Street and King Street.

Two of the suspects are believed to be white men, and the other an Asian man.

A 19-year-old man from Telford was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and is currently on bail until January 21.
