Stunning Shrewsbury sunrise tracked down
Was it the wrong kind of frost keeping the trains off the tracks? Whatever the reason for the lack of trains, their absence made for a stunning photograph.
Taken on Monday morning and published on Twitter by Network Rail, the photograph of the Severn Bridge signal box near Shrewsbury shows the sun rising over the 113-year-old building.
It is the largest mechanical signal box in Europe today - with 180 levers. The only box to beat it in size is in Melbourne, Australia.
Severn Bridge Junction opened in 1904, and although on joint property of the London & North Western and Great Western Railways, was of pure LNW design.
It was built to their standard design of 1876 and featured tall window sections to allow the signal men a better view from such a great height.
