Prees Church of England Primary School and Whixall Church of England Primary School have joined together to start the new Fields Multi Academy Trust. To celebrate staff and pupils took part in a fun day.

Kevin Carty, chairman of governors for Prees Primary School and Graham Murphy, chairman of governors for Whixall Primary School, released a joint statement to mark the occasion.

They said: "You will be aware in the media that the Government has pledged that all schools will become academies by 2020.

"Many schools in our area are exploring options to maintain sustainable schools in an uncertain climate.

"The governing bodies of both schools met independently to consider the future of their schools in order to continue to deliver outstanding education to all of our children.

"After meeting together and carefully considering a number of options, both governing bodies decided that the best way forward is to actively pursue the option of becoming a Multi Academy Trust.

"By forming a Multi- Academy Trust we would continue to operate as two separate schools under members and directors who will monitor and direct the work of the schools.

"The schools would continue to be run on a day-to-day basis by their head teachers."

Both schools say they hope that by forming the trust they will be able to ensure the future of both schools.
