Letter: EU Vote result makes me proud to be British

God bless the British electorate. I am so very proud of Britain for taking the brave decision to leave the EU, against the scaremongering of our own government, to leave the constraints of the EU political experiment. Bravo!

I accept the irony of the choice of word. However, leaving the EU does not mean leaving Europe. The two are not inexorably linked. We will leave the EU and re-join the world.

Our elected officials from councillors to MPs and MEPs will have to do what all the rest of us do each and every day – work hard for our money and get the best deal for the UK with trade deals. If they can't then they should stand down, stop taking our money and let others take on the challenge.

What does the future hold for the UK? Well it will not be concerned by the struggle that Germany has to integrate one million refugees that it invited without consulting the rest of us or the fallout for the unpopular French president who is struggling to push through labour reforms in France or the constitutional crisis in Spain and their elections or the urgent bank funding crisis in Italy which needs resolving in a matter of weeks or the capital flight from Poland due to concerns over extremism in their national government.

Phew…and we thought leaving the EU was risky. The British people have seen through the smoke and mirrors.
