Darwin's Islands of Adventure has been officially opened with youngsters filling the area in the town's Quarry park.

With two days of sunshine so far, the splash park with water fountains and pools has been a huge success.

The park cost more than £350,000 which also included a revamp of the children's play area as well as the splash equipment installation.

For the opening this week, Mayor of Shrewsbury Town Council Ioan Jones had a go on the slide while the Police Dog mascot Peeler watched on.

Councillor Jones said he was thrilled with the result and it was "worth every penny". He hoped it would encourage people to go to the park and spend money in and around the area.

He added that the first couple of days were more busy than expected, and children seemed to be enjoying all the equipment.

The design came following ideas put forward by more than 2,000 people last year.
