The public toilets in Cross Street have been closed.

Ellesmere Town Council recently agreed to spend £1,644 to provide CCTV coverage in Cross Street following a recent spate of vandalism – including damage to a shop front.

Thge town's mayor, Ian Ward, said he is sadden by the latest act of vandalism and has apologised to residents.

He said: "I would like to apologise on behalf of the town council for the public toilets in Cross Street being closed once again due to vandalism.

"Despite the improved security measures taken recently, the toilets (both men and women) were broken into again last Friday night.

"The town council will have these repaired yet again to ensure that this vital facility for residents and visitors can be reopened as soon as possible.

"Every time the council has to repair them it is using council tax paid by local residents which should be spent on other planned services to benefit the town."
