Work starts on new Telford car park

Work has started on a new car park with dozens of spaces in a Shropshire village following concerns about parking problems.

The car park, which will have about 60 spaces, is now being built opposite Admaston House community centre, in Wellington Road, Admaston.

Telford & Wrekin Councillor Terry Kiernan said residents had been complaining for years about parking problems during football matches on the village's playing fields.

The work is being carried out by Fitzgerald Contractors.

The scheme has been funded through Telford & Wrekin Council's Pride in Your Community programme. Breedon Aggregates at Leaton Quarries in Telford have also donated building materials.

Councillor Kiernan, who represents the Admaston and Bratton ward and is a trustee of Admaston House, said: "What happens usually at weekends when people use the football fields, they park at Admaston House or on both sides of the road which is a nuisance.

"I asked Telford & Wrekin Council if we could have a piece of the football field to turn into a car park.

"We then needed the finance to get it all done and we got the money through applying to the Pride in Your Community programme. There will be 60 spaces. It can be used by people using the football fields, those using Admaston House or tourists."

Access to the car park will be via Pemberton Road.

Double yellow lines will also be painted on Wellington Road to help ease parking issues further.

Councillor Kiernan added: "It's taken three years to get this going but the borough council has been absolutely fantastic.

"We are going to be tidying the area up as well and putting in planters.

"I think it will be wonderful when we get the car park done."
