Shropshire has been hit by snow showers today - despite it being late April.

It is the second time in a matter of weeks that snow has come down in the region during spring.

The Met Office has forecast a day of wintry showers today, turning heavy in places with the risk of hail and thunder and a maximum temperature of 9°C.

The wintry showers will continue overnight, but will become more isolated by dawn.

While it is unusual to get snow in April - it is still more common than you might think, the Met office have said.

Based on records from 1981 to 2010 the UK average is for 2.3 days of snow in April, which is more than the 1.7 days for an average November.

Whilst the beginning of April is more likely to be white than the end of the month, there have been a number of notable snow events this late on.
