At an inquest into the retired miner's death, a statement was read out by coroner's officer Kerry Ann Badham about his career.

She said: "In 1948 Mr Tracz started working as a coal miner and was deployed all over England.

"He was exposed to coal dust for about 30 years until he retired.

"In 1998 he was diagnosed with coal workers pneumoconiosis and in January he was admitted to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, where he was treated for pneumonia.

"He was discharged from hospital and moved to the Morris Court Care but on April 16 he passed away in his sleep."

Shropshire coroner John Ellery concluded Mr Tracz's death was caused by old age, pneumonia and mining dust.

Speaking at the inquest held at the Shirehall in Shrewsbury, he said: "I record that John Evan Tracz died on April 16 at the Morris Care Centre.

"The cause of death was pneumonia and old age.

"I record a combination of medical causes and mining dust."
