Three friends who have mourned wives and partners are joining forces to raise money in their memory.

And they are being helped by fellow Meifod resident Matthew Jones, who will be having his bushy beard shaved off in return for charity donations.

The four men are staging a fundraising night at the Cobra Club in Meifod.

The charity promise auction will be held on April 22, to raise funds for the local Macmillan Nurses and the Severn Hospice.

It has been organised by Wyn Pugh, Tony Isaac and John Andrew, from the village, who all lost their wives or partners to cancer.

They say the charities helped them and their loved ones when they needed them most and 'a vast array of fabulous, generously donated goods and experiences will be auctioned at the event, which starts at 6.30pm'.

The lots will be auctioned by David "Clunk" Evans and Glandon Lewis and include a flight from Welshpool airport, a hospitality table for 10, including food, at a TNS home match and bird watching with Iolo Williams.
