The grounds of Shrewsbury Castle have been overtaken by a stunning sea of metal forget-me-nots as part of a Severn Hospice appeal.

A total of 750 of the flowers, reminiscent of the poppies planted in the grounds of the Tower of London, have been placed in the castle gardens, with people encouraged to buy them as a way of remembering their loved ones.

There to help launch the project was Sarah Lewis-Schulz and her daughters Tallulah, 10, and Poppy, nine. Tallulah became an internet sensation last year when she raised £10,000 for the hospice by having her hair cut off.

The hospice had provided care for her father Andreas, who died in May last year.

Sarah said the flowers, which were created by the British Ironwork Centre at Oswestry, made a stunning and memorable image.

She said: "They look amazing.

"Obviously it is a smaller scale of the poppies at the Tower of London but to see them here with the sun shining, they really stand out."

Becky Richardson, matron for community services at Severn Hospice, said: "The forget-me-nots look truly beautiful.

"We hope by planting so many of them in such an iconic location they will help us to raise awareness of the vital work of our hospice."
