Police chase stolen bus in Shropshire: Two plead guilty after vehicle taken

Two men, including one from Telford have pleaded guilty over the theft of a bus driven through Shropshire and the West Midlands.

But a third defendant has denied being involved and faces a trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

A single-decker bus was stolen from Sandwell Vehicles Ltd depot, in Tinsley Street, Tipton, on Wednesday night.

It was spotted on the A41 at Albrighton at 2.50am in the morning.

It was driven around 30 miles through Shropshire, Staffordshire and Wolverhampton before being stopped and abandoned in Southall Crescent, Coseley.

John Burton, aged 38, from Beaconsfield, Brookside , Telford, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified and using a motor vehicle without third party insurance.

He was remanded in custody at Sandwell Magistrates Court.

Peter Loveland, aged 39, from Dale Close, Tipton, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking. He was given conditional bail.

The third defendant, Thomas Tibbs, aged 20 of Clinic Drive, Lye, pleaded not guilty to aggravated vehicle taking.

All three will next appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on April 29 for a preliminary hearing.
