It was November 2015, less than six months ago that Paul Daniels and his wife Debee McGee took to the stage at the Festival Drayton Centre in Market Drayton - what sadly was to be his last ever perfromance in Shropshire.

Here is Paul Daniels last ever interview in the Shropshire Star, and a review of his show from last year.

They are one of TV's best-known couples and last weekend night Paul Daniels and wife Debbie McGee proved they have lost none of their magic.

They took to the stage at the Festival Drayton Centre in Market Drayton and wowed the sell-out audience with their sleights of hand.

For more than two hours the couple entertained the crowd with their wit and comedy as well as keeping the magic up close and personal. It is the third time they have performed at the town's community-run event space as the veteran performer explained before the show began. "We love coming to Market Drayton to perform," said the 77-year-old entertainer.

"It is a great venue for our show. We love this theatre. We like for the audience to be able to see what we are doing. It is the best feeling to see that they are flummoxed by the magic we are doing. It is great to see how people love it all. Each night is different for us – we have an idea how the show will go but we mix it around depending on the audience. It is just Debbie and me and we are in control. There is no script and we feed off the audience. Each show is different and it is great to see their reactions to it

"We have performed in big stadiums and small village halls and, I have to say, the smaller venues are better for us as they are that much more intimate. As they say, variety is the spice of life and that holds true for us." Paul started magic as an 11-year-old. "

It is great that I still get to do something that is a hobby for me and get paid for it. It helps pay for the Debbie McGee shoe fund," he joked.

And speaking of Debbie, who is 57-year-old, is also a skilled magician and is no longer relegated to the role of the glamorous magician's assistant.

"I have learnt a few tricks," she said. "I have had to as I do quite a lot of after-dinner speaking and they like to see some magic too.

"I get asked to do it and it is something I have had to learn but it has been worth it."

And judging by the reaction of the audience the night was pure magic.
