Worfield Caterpillars, which is based in the grounds of Worfield Primary School, has been given an "outstanding" rating following a recent inspection by the education watchdog.

Praise was heaped on the manager and staff who were said to demonstrate a "significantly high level of understanding" about how children learn and develop.

A report, published following the inspection, said children made rapid progress and partnerships with parents were "exceptional".

It continued: "All staff demonstrate the highest expectations for the children in their care.

"They are highly skilled in making sure children are supported through optimal challenge during their planned and spontaneous play activities.

"Staff use a wealth of inspiring ways to raise parents' confidence in supporting their child's learning at home.

"This includes regular stay-and-play sessions and workshops, where parents find out how best their child learns through play and positive interaction."

The report also said that children settled in quickly and managed their own behaviour exceptionally well, developing strong friendships with others around them.

The nursery, which caters for children aged between two and five and has 39 youngsters on roll, was judged to be outstanding in all categories including leadership, quality of teaching, personal development and outcomes for children.

It is the second time it has achieved the grade, with inspectors last visiting the nursery in 2011.

Nursery manager Angela Wright said: "We are extremely delighted to be graded outstanding in every category of the inspection.

"We are dedicated to aspiring to the highest standards of care and education and I am immensely proud that the hard work and expertise of the staff has been recognised."
