The defendants were all charged with affray following an incident at Montgomery's Tower in Lower Claremont Bank, Shrewsbury, in September last year.

Three of the defendants – Stephen Foster, 33, Lewis Coupe, 21, and Connor Morris, 23 – pleaded guilty to the charge at Shrewsbury Crown Court. Judge Jim Tindal adjourned sentence on the three men until March 18 for reports.

Also in the dock were James Shrives, 25, Alex Robinson, 25, Joshua Richardson, 27 and Luke Day, 25, who all pleaded not guilty to being involved in the affray on September 9.

Mr Ian Stebbing, for the four defendants, said his clients were all helicopter pilots and had scheduled training courses and exercises in the coming months and a trial could not be heard until later in the year.

Judge Tindal adjourned the trial of the four men until November 7.

Day, Richardson and Robinson, all of RAF Shawbury; Shrives, of Lee-on-the-Solent, Hampshire; Foster, of Blackpool, Lancashire; Coupe, of Rochdale, Greater Manchester and Morris of Bulford Barracks, Salisbury, were all allowed bail.
