The iconic trophy was on show at Shrewsbury Museum throughout the day on Saturday and saw people from all over the county.

And visitors were keen to pose with the trophy while they could as it made its way around the area. Elizabeth Broomhall, visitor information officer at the museum said: "There was a steady stream of people all day.

"It was lovely to have it here, we all went to see it and I saw it put together and dismantle it.

"It is definitely bigger than you would think it is."

The trophy is 110cm high, 107cm in diameter at its widest point, and weighs 105kg.

The cup has been on show around Shrewsbury including at the Guildhall in Frankwell and The Shrewsbury Club while it held its Aegon GB Pro-series men's event.

The competition is one of the biggest sporting events in Shropshire, being part of the International Tennis Federation World Series and attracting players from across Europe.

The Davis Cup was lifted by the Great Britain team – including Andy and Jamie Murray – in November last year and the win was Great Britain's first Davis Cup victory in 79 years.
