Alerts for snow and ice in place across Shropshire and Mid Wales

Yellow weather warnings were in place today as the region continued to be threatened by snow and ice.

Shropshire and Mid Wales awoke to a covering of snow over the weekend. More flurries are expected this week, but the Met Office says ice will remain the biggest threat, especially during morning rush hours.

A Met Office spokesman said: "Higher ground in Shropshire and Mid Wales can expect some snow today. However the main hazard looks like being ice, as rain, sleet and snow falls onto sub-zero surfaces. It will make roads and pavements potentially very slippery."

Temperatures last night dropped as low as -4C (25F) in exposed areas.

But there is an end in sight to the cold snap, with temperatures on Friday as high as 12C (54F).
