More than £9,000 has been pledged to the family of Matthew Cooper through an online Go Fund Me page. Staff and pupils at Wrockwardine Wood Junior School, where Matthew is a pupil, have raised a further £2,000 in his honour.

The money will go towards adapting the Coopers' home in Trench so Matthew can come home.

He has been cared for at Birmingham Children's Hospital since August after he was diagnosed with brain and spinal cancer. Following surgery to remove tumours Matthew suffered strokes, which left him paralysed.

He began his second course of radiotherapy at the hospital this week, which his father Leigh said he has responded well to.

Another Go Fund Me page has been set up by Peter Corr, whose daughter attends Matthew's school, as he hopes to run the Ironbridge Half Marathon on March 13 in aid of the appeal.

All money raised by Mr Corr will also go to help adapt the Cooper's home.

Telford & Wrekin Council visited the house on Tuesday and planned with Mr Cooper what could be done to make the house suit Matthew's needs.

It is understood the earliest Matthew could return is May.

Mr Cooper has also thanked the community for pulling together to help raise he money for his son. He said he was "overwhelmed" by the response.

An appeal page has been set up on Facebook called "Making a difference for Matthew" and his Go Fund Me page can be found under the name "Bring Matt home fund".
