Shrewsbury bus passenger killed after collision with car named

The man who was killed after being hit by a car after getting off a bus has been named.

Malcolm Walker was named by a spokesman for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin coroner's office.

The 64-year-old died on Thursday morning following the collision on Wednesday afternoon on Longden Road in Shrewsbury.

Emergency services were called to the collision, which involved a silver Ford Focus which was travelling towards Shrewsbury, shortly before 4.10pm.

Police, firefighters, paramedics and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford were all called to the scene.

After receiving specialist trauma treatment at the scene, Mr Walker was taken to Royal Stoke Hospital by ambulance with multiple, serious injuries but died in the early hours of Thursday morning.

It is believed that he had been travelling on the number 26 bus prior to the collision.

The accident happened close to the junction of Longden Road with Old Roman Road.

Police are keen to talk to anyone, either pedestrians or bus passengers who may have witnessed the accident.

The road was closed for several hours following the incident.

Members of the public who witnessed the collision are asked to call police on 101, quoting incident 381s of January 6, 2016.
