Consultation has started on three possible options, and people living in the borough have been encouraged to have their say.

The first option would be for a two per cent rise, with other options to increase council tax by 3.2 per cent or 3.9 per cent.

The 3.9 per cent option would cost an average Band B household an extra 67p per week.

If an increase of 3.2 per cent is agreed it would equate to 55p per week for a Band B house, and the two per cent option would lead to an extra 34p being paid per week.

A budget consultation survey, in which people can give their views on proposed cuts and council tax will be available at www.telford.gov.uk/budget from Friday.

Cabinet member Councillor Lee Carter, cabinet member for finance at Telford & Wrekin Council, said: "It's vital that as many people as possible have their say on our proposed cuts and give their views on whether we should increase council tax further when our survey launches on Friday."
