Course provider Be A Better You said more than one in five UK adults are looking to employ a personal trainer in 2016.

Simon Bubb, managing director at beabetteryoucourses.co.uk, said: "The research highlighted some very interesting statistics surrounding why people are inspired to do something new with their lives in the new year, and the motives behind those career choices.

"The appeal of flexible working hours was the number one reason respondents cited for considering a new career as a personal trainer, followed by the attraction of becoming their own boss.

"Anybody with the drive and willingness to learn can become a personal trainer, and it can open many doors for the future.

"Aside from the income potential, there's the social element and of course, keeping fit and healthy on the job."
