A charity which looks after the homeless has thanked a slimming group after it donated food for meals.

Slimming World members presented tinned food of all varieties to the Shrewsbury Ark earlier this week.

Tim Compton, manager of the Ark, said they were delighted to receive the donation and thanked the group's members for their generosity.

He said: "We are really grateful to Slimming World, we have been receiving donations from them every year and we really appreciate it, not just with the food donations but with all our donations, particularly the financial ones.

"We would not be able to do what we do without the generosity of donations like this."

The Ark provides breakfast and lunch Monday to Friday and the organisation is largely supported by the generosity of the public, with around two thirds of its funding coming from donations.

Mr Compton urged anyone interested in supporting the charity to get in touch through its website.

The donation from Slimming World Shrewsbury will be used to provide meals at the centre, although it also provides foods to people in an emergency if they are unable to access food bank services.

Mr Compton said: "We will use the food for providing meals for clients as well as helping those who do not have enough in their own homes. We refer people to food banks if they are in need of help but also if the food bank is unavailable for whatever reason then we can help out in an emergency."

The Shrewsbury Ark is an independently-run day centre, seeking to help and support some of the most disadvantaged members of the community.

The charity provides a safe and welcoming environment where people can find refuge in times of distress. It offers practical help and support to those in need, as well as advice, guidance and encouragement.
