But the success of Downton Abbey has not just driven up TV audiences for period drama, it has also resulted in a growing interest in antiques from the period featured in the series.

An antiques centre in Shropshire is now offering customers the chance to create their own Downton Abbey-style festive feast over the Christmas period.

The Old Mill Antiques Centre in Low Town, Bridgnorth, has put together a vintage seasonal dinner table with items ranging from Edwardian lace cloths to antique crockery, glass and silverware.

John Ridgway, who owns the centre, said: "We wanted to show customers just how good a vintage-style Christmas dinner table can look and so we created one here at the Old Mill.

"Many people are keen fans of the TV series Downton Abbey, set in the post-Edwardian era, and they can put together a Christmas feast in the style of that period with vintage items such as dinner services and glasses, even silver candlesticks."
