Amy Hughes shows her determination to complete 12-day sports challenge
Shropshire marathon runner Amy Hughes' 12 days of Christmas challenge turned into a non-stop test of grit and determination.
Amy, 27, who entered the world record books for running 53 marathons in 53 days, took on 12 challenges in different sports to raise awareness of keeping fit and also raise funds for her charity, the 53 Foundation.
Among her triumphs were swimming four miles, cycling more than 50, learning how to trampoline and how to play golf.
The athlete, who comes from West Felton, near Oswestry, enlisted the help of some of British's top sportsmen and women and even television stars to do her 12 days of Christmas challenge.
She said that the hardest challenge was her four-mile swim, which took her two and a half hours.
"I felt like the tiredest, wrinklyest prune," she said.
Joining young people in challenges were among her favourite days, whether learning judo throws with Telford's Olympic queen Kelly Edwards and the members of the Wrekin Stars, or having a trampoline lesson with Cheshire-born world championship medal winner Bryony Page.
And Amy said she had surprised herself by beating paralympian Hannah Cockcroft in a handbike challenge in the gym, and in being able to hit a ball during a golf lesson.
Amy and her boyfriend Dave Keighly battled the elements to climb up Snowdon in the mist and 60 mile-an-hour winds.
Goggle Box celebrity Baasit Tapper challenged Amy to a 10-mile run in Derbyshire with a host of other runners.
Amy said she wanted to show you didn't have to run to get fit and enjoy sport.
"I was surprised at how much I enjoyed my golf session; it shows you shouldn't knock something until you try it. Massive thanks to Dan Haughian at Addlington Golf Centre and to everyone who has made the past 12 days so amazing."
Amy finished her 12-day challenge on Christmas Eve by running a marathon at home in Oswestry with Dave and her other friends.
