Shrewsbury town centre roads closed overnight due to police 'incident'

A police incident involving concerns for the welfare of a man closed some roads in Shrewsbury town centre overnight.

Police were called to Smithfield Road close to the Premier Inn and bus station at 9.45pm last night.

The man, in his 40s, was safely detained by police under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital, but is not thought to be suffering from any injuries.

A number of roads including Raven Meadows and Shrewsbury bus station were closed last night as a result of the police operation, but they have all now been re-opened.
