'Baddies' destroy Shropshire Christmas lights

A Christmas garden display designed to cheer up a community and spread some festive joy has been destroyed by vandals.

The Davies family, who live in Drayton Road, Shifnal, put the lights display in their front garden to bring some festive cheer to the town.

But upon waking up on Friday they were horrified to find that vandals had kicked over their LED reindeers, breaking two of them.

Karly Davies, a mother-of-two, said her eldest son Vinnie, five, keeps checking the garden to make sure the "baddies don't come back".

The 28-year-old said: "I think it is a really selfish thing to do. We spent a whole day putting the lights up, which cost about £85 each, and to see someone has done this is heartbreaking.

"My five-year-old son keeps asking me why this happened and he keeps looking out the window making sure the baddies don't come back.

"My two-year-old, Alfie, doesn't really understand what's happened. He does keep asking what's happened to the lights, though."

This is the first year the Davies family have put on a light display.

Mrs Davies and her husband Steve put the lights up with her parents. "All the children in the community loved seeing the reindeers all lit up at night," she added.

"We just hope they feel bad for what they have done because there was no need for it."
