Shropshire and Mid Wales jobless figures continue to fall

The number of people on the dole in Shropshire has fallen once again, official figures have revealed.

Latest data from the Office for National Statistics reveals that the number of people claiming Jobseekers' Allowance declined to 1,318 in Shropshire in November, from 1,427 the previous month.

Telford & Wrekin enjoyed a similar decline, from 1,212 to 1,098, while Powys had only 784 people picking up the benefit, compared with 819 in October.

Including the new Universal Credit, 1,800 people in Shropshire are currently claiming out-of-work benefits, while 1,406 people in Telford & Wrekin are picking up one of the two forms of benefit.

The combined number of Jobseekers' Allowance and Universal Credit claimants in Powys is 815.
