More Shropshire flooding possible as severe weather warning issued

Shropshire and Mid Wales may be set for another bout of flooding as heavy rain continues to fall across the region.

A yellow warning was issued for today in Wales and the Midlands as concerns are raised about localised flooding.

The Environment Agency raised concerns about parts of the River Severn and the Severn Vyrnwy confluence, where a number of roads are at risk of surface water.

After a clear and cool Friday afternoon heavy rain poured down overnight and is set to persist until Saturday night.

Up to 60mm of rain is expected in higher areas.

The Met Office also warned that snowfall may affect higher areas, particularly in North Shropshire, while winds are expected to reach 50 to 60mph in the south of the region.

The weather should settle at around 8pm, but travel is likely to remain disrupted.

Nationally, more flooding has been forecast in the North West over the weekend as the Army arrives in Keswick to help the clear-up effort.
